{"id":1624,"date":"2023-04-11T11:28:39","date_gmt":"2023-04-11T10:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/?p=1624"},"modified":"2023-04-11T11:28:39","modified_gmt":"2023-04-11T10:28:39","slug":"in-memoriam-freed-hartman-24-april-1963-1-february-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/?p=1624","title":{"rendered":"In Memoriam: Freed Hartman (24 April 1963 &#8211; 1 February 2023)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>[Guest blog post by Riki Refaeli and David Talmor, <a href=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/people\/Freed\/\">Freed<\/a>&#8216;s family and friends]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Freed-Hartmann-Photo-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"853\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Freed-Hartmann-Photo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Freed-Hartmann-Photo-2.jpg 853w, https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Freed-Hartmann-Photo-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.freesound.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Freed-Hartmann-Photo-2-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 853px) 100vw, 853px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br>With great sorrow we part from Friedhelm Hans \u201c<strong>Freed<\/strong>\u201d Hartmann upon his tragic death, and provide this tribute to Freed and his many activities including his <strong>strong contributions to the<\/strong> <strong>Freesound community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/embed\/sound\/iframe\/11347\/simple\/full_size\/\" width=\"620\" height=\"245\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>From 1979 to 1986 Freed studied contemporary composition at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden, from 1986 to 1988 at the Akademie der K\u00fcnste Berlin, and from 1989 to 1993 algorithmic composition at the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Media at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.&nbsp;&nbsp;During this time, Freed also joined the <strong>German Electroacoustic Society<\/strong> as an active member. From 1993 to 1995, Freed expanded his studies with Itzhak Sadai at the Buchmann Mehta-Musikhochschule of the University of Tel Aviv in the field of <strong>music archaeology<\/strong> as a scholarship of the German Academic Exchange Service.&nbsp;&nbsp;In addition to worldwide performances of Freed\u2019s compositions, which were organized by music companies such as the IGNM or ICMA in various European and non-European countries, Freed\u2019s efforts to introduce new musical ideas to listeners who have less experience with avant-garde or experimental music included the contribution of a <strong>large fund of experimental sound textures to the Freesound community<\/strong>, which are still used by several thousand members, the collaborative creation of music pieces, consisting of sounds and sound structures of many Freesound members of different musical backgrounds, musical educational projects and lectures for primary school classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/embed\/sound\/iframe\/1333\/simple\/full_size\/\" width=\"620\" height=\"245\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Freed\u2019s interest in his music paralleled his interest in the life he built with his life-partner, Riki Refaeli, near the Mediterranean coast just south of Tel Aviv.&nbsp;&nbsp;Freed and Riki built a life together that included much culture, frequent hiking trips in various regions, and delightful get-togethers with their broad range of friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;The relationship between Freed and Riki reflected the diversity, color, and activeness of how Freed related to music.&nbsp;&nbsp;Tragically Freed met his death in the Mediterranean Sea, and although his life ended his works very much continue.&nbsp;Freed&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/people\/Freed\/\">Freesound profile can be found here<\/a>.&nbsp;His <a href=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/search\/?q=&amp;f=username%3A%22Freed%22&amp;w=&amp;tm=0&amp;s=Rating+%28highest+first%29&amp;advanced=0&amp;g=1&amp;only_p=\">highest rated sounds in Freesound are found here<\/a>,&nbsp;and his <a href=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/search\/?q=&amp;f=username%3A%22Freed%22&amp;w=&amp;tm=0&amp;s=Downloads+%28most+first%29&amp;advanced=0&amp;g=1&amp;only_p=\">most downloaded sounds are at&nbsp;here<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can learn more about Freed\u2019s work at <a href=\"https:\/\/hartmannfriedhelm.wixsite.com\/my-site\">his web site<\/a>,&nbsp;and on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UC6FgDJTJeR0Esg6yrOf8yPw\">YouTube channel<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/freesound.org\/embed\/sound\/iframe\/19690\/simple\/full_size\/\" width=\"620\" height=\"245\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Freed very much<strong> enjoyed and benefited from the Freesound community<\/strong>, and we hope that the Freesound community will continue his memory and his approach by continuing to use his works and to remember the very special person from which they came.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;
